During your first setup you will need to register a multi-factor authentication (MFA) method. The options you see may depend on the device you are using and your organisation's IT policies.
Recommended for most users: a mobile authenticator app
For most LabConnect users, we recommend a mobile authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.
Why we recommend this approach:
• you can carry the authentication method with you;
• you can use it when signing in from different computers;
• it does not depend on one particular laptop being available; and
• modern authenticator apps can also support passkeys/passwordless sign-in on compatible devices.
Microsoft Authenticator
A good choice if you already use it for work or other services. Your organisation may manage whether you can install or use it.
Google Authenticator
A straightforward alternative for generating verification codes on a mobile device.
Windows Hello / Apple Face ID or Touch ID
These can provide a very convenient sign-in experience when your organisation and device allow them. Remember that a device-based method may be tied to the computer, phone or tablet on which it is configured.
Physical security key
A hardware security key may be appropriate for some users or organisations. You need to keep the key with you and follow your organisation's security rules.
What if I cannot use any of these options?
Do not choose an unsupported method simply to complete setup. Check with your organisation's IT team or use the Identity Platform support page so the available options can be reviewed.
What about SMS or email codes?
Email & SMS will not be supported as MFA methods.
