Phthalates are compounds commonly added to plastic products to increase their flexibility and durability. They can potentially contaminate food and supplement products during manufacturing, processing, packaging or storage.
AsureQuality offers phthalate testing to help manufacturers assess potential contamination and support their product safety and quality requirements.
Phthalate screening
Our DX-PHTH03 11-SHORTSCREEN test screens for the following phthalates:
- BBP
- DBP
- DINP
- DEHP
Please contact us if you require testing for other phthalates or are unsure whether this screen is suitable for your requirements.
Testing capsule products
Our extraction procedure is suitable for:
- Softgel (gelatin) capsules
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) capsules
Other capsule types may also be suitable, provided their coatings are water-soluble at 70°C.
Capsule formulations and coatings can vary. If you are unsure whether your samples are compatible with our testing procedure, please contact us before submitting them. Providing information about the capsule material or coating will help our team confirm suitability.
Please note that capsule testing is currently only available under DX-PHTH03 11-SHORTSCREEN, covering BBP, DBP, DINP and DEHP.
Preventing contamination during sampling
Phthalates can be present in packaging and sampling materials. To reduce the risk of contaminating your sample, avoid using the following items to collect or store samples for phthalate testing:
- Plastic containers, particularly those made from soft plastics
- Tin cans, as their internal linings may contain phthalates
Using unsuitable sampling containers could introduce phthalates into the sample and result in an inaccurately high result.
Please contact our team if you need advice about an appropriate container or how to prepare your sample.
