Triphenylmethane dyes such as malachite green and crystal violet, are found in inks (e.g. felt pens and biros), coloured paper (e.g. coloured paper towels), coloured textiles, powdered gloves and make‐up (e.g. eye shadow and lipstick). These dyes are also used as stains in microbiology laboratories.
Triphenylmethane dyes have a harmful impact on aquatic environments and can enter the food chain through seafood, posing a risk to health.
AsureQuality offers testing of seafood and aquaculture for contamination by these chemicals of concern, enabling producers to confirm the safety of their products.
Submitting samples
Please use the following sampling procedure when submitting samples to AsureQuality for this assay.
Seafood samples must be submitted frozen, either as a whole fish, or in their unopened commercial packaging. Seafood, fish meal or fish food samples must be double bagged in plain (uncoloured and unmarked) plastic bags and the identification label (a buff shipping / luggage tag is ideal) placed between the inner and outer bag. Additionally, the identification label is placed in its own plastic bag. The sample details are recorded by writing in lead pencil onto the buff label.
Samples may be rejected if inappropriately collected.
